Fermanagh Lakes Lough Erne

Fermanagh is an angler’s heaven with the 50 miles of water within Lough Erne and with Lough Melvin. The Fermanagh Lakeland’s is a very popular place to fish with many rivers and streams. However, these two Loughs are the most popular with visitors and locals alike for their wide expanse of water and variation of fish. Fermanagh offers two main types of fishing which are Coarse Angling and Game Angling. Coarse Angling, often known as ‘the sport of gentlemen’, originated in the United Kingdom over 200 years ago, and is still very popular in Northern Ireland. Upper Lough Erne is the ideal spot for some coarse fishing as it is filled with Pike, Perch, Brown Trout, Bream, Rudd, Roach and Eels and with the main town of Enniskillen close by, fresh bait can be purchased in almost any store. Game fishing is experienced at its full in Northern Ireland, and especially in Fermanagh. With upper Lough Erne ideal for some Coarse angling, the lower Lough Erne is perfect for some game fish, such as Salmon and Trout. If visitors are looking to try out some of Fermanagh’s angler’s havens, then licenses must be purchased for both types of fishing.

Fermanagh is in abundance with nature, wildlife, clean fresh air and glorious scenery. It is a refreshing county which has everything on offer from friendly locals to comfortable and warm accommodation. A perfect place for the family, Fermanagh is not an area to go unexplored.
